Introducing dk3

Uniting the finest carpentry traditions with classic and contemporary furniture design

Founded in 2009 by Jacob and Anne Plejdrup, the dk3 collection combines exclusive classic and contemporary furniture from great Danish architects and designers such as Jeppe Utzon, Poul Cadovius and others with the majority of the dk3 collection made at their factories in Denmark. dk3 creates and produces furniture pieces shaped and crafted by true enthusiasts, always with the ambition to unite the finest carpentry traditions with modern and classic furniture design through the fusion of steel, brass and wood. “We have a passion for wood, and in our designs, we always aim to highlight rather than hide the natural characteristics of the tree,” reflects Jacob Plejdrup. “To us, the knots and small cracks in each individual plank is a kind of treasure making the final piece of furniture unique.” The love for organic material and uncompromising focus on quality is evident throughout the entire process, from the first design sketches to the manufacturing in the factories, where most pieces are finished and surface treated by hand.

dk3 was among the first brands to introduce the plank table to the Scandinavian market back in 2009, and as a natural continuation of this design heritage, dk3 founder Jacob Plejdrup and Danish designer Christian Troels developed the Ten Table to mark dk3’s 10th anniversary in 2019. In 2020, the table was accompanied by a coffee table and a round dining table, and now the dining table is also available in a new oval version. With the introduction of the oval dining table, the Ten Table series now includes a complete range of dining and coffee tables in the characteristic and exclusive design. The tabletop and table legs are made of solid wood, but despite the table's heaviness in size and weight, it still has a lightness, which is emphasized by the refined crafted details like the organic-shaped oval tabletop with a slightly sloping edge and the distinctive vertical grooves of the legs. The table comes in oak, wild oak, smoked oak or walnut and can be extended in the middle by up to five extension leaves in either wood or black MDF.

The Raba Sideboard, designed by the Swiss-based German designer Rainer Bachschmid, can be mounted on the wall or stand on the floor on top of two slim legs in either clear lacquered steel or black powder coated steel. The doors and drawers are made from one piece of wood and have no handles or ornaments. This makes the front appear as one single unit, which gives a harmonious overall impression and makes a perfect base for the movement and natural characteristics of the wood. The light and elegant appearance of the sideboard is further emphasized by the sloping edges of the doors and drawers. The sideboard has four doors and comes with one preinstalled shelf in each of the four compartments. It is possible to replace one or more doors with up to three cutlery drawers in each compartment.

The Tree Table is a perfectly balanced natural design. On top of the simple steel construction lie solid wooden planks shaped by nature and crafted by the industry's most skilled hands. The table combines true craftsmanship and innovative engineering, and the result is visually striking. In oak, the Tree Table is always made of two whole planks taken from the same tree trunk. Each plank has its own unique form and structure containing different natural characteristics like knots and small cracks, and the natural edges are gently sanded by hand. Each Tree Table is individually numbered, and a discrete plate on the table edge testifies the originality of the table.

The Pia chair was developed on a "less is more" concept, with focus on the least possible material consumption, still maintaining a high level of detail and optimal comfort. The thin, conical-shaped solid wooden legs give a light visual expression, which is further emphasized by two fine details; the hand-sanded rounding at the top of the back legs, and the finger jointed front legs. The seat is created in a two hour weaving process which requires great patience and precision and is joined by a moulded backrest for exceptional comfort.

System Ultra consists of wall-mounted rails, shelves and hangers in powder coated steel. The system is characterized by its elegant, ultra-thin shelves, with a wave-shaped edge profile, attached to the rails by hangers in either raw brass or colored steel. The components are available in various colors and sizes, offering the possibility to customize the system in multiple individual combinations, and to extend it over time according to needs. In 1957 Poul Cadovius exhibited at the XI Triennale in Milan with the System Ultra, for which he won a silver medal. A highly treasured prize and an international recognition of an exceptional design idea.

The table has a simplicity that allows the beautiful natural characteristics of the wild wood to take center stage. It is made in a classic solid wood construction, and beneath the tabletop there is a discrete steel cable, which can be adjusted to achieve stability and prevent deflection over time. Jeppe Utzon's grandfather was the famed Danish architect Jørn Utzon - the architect and designer of the Sydney Opera House. As his grandfather, Jeppe Utzon allows detail and totality to work together in a unified expression that has genuine global appeal, and this design philosophy is truly embodied in the Jeppe Utzon Table #1.
