Introducing Skargaarden

Skargaarden hails from Gävle, a quaint town nestled along the Baltic coast of Sweden. For centuries, the town's inhabitants have relied on the bountiful waters and picturesque landscapes that encompass their lives. Yet, existence here is not without its challenges, as harsh winds and heavy snowfall dominate the majority of the year. Just a day's journey from their doorstep lies the Arctic Circle, where a month-long winter darkness emphasizes the scarcity of sunlight. Understanding the fleeting nature of Scandinavian summers, Skargaarden holds a deep appreciation for every sunlit moment, striving to encapsulate their essence in each creation. Collaborating with skilled designers from Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, Skargaarden aims to pay homage to Scandinavian design principles while drawing inspiration from the American Shaker and Bauhaus movements. Their furniture embodies a commitment to superior craftsmanship, durability, and an effortless aesthetic. With a belief in the mantra of "less is more," Skargaarden places emphasis on quality over quantity, elevating simplicity to an unparalleled level of refinement.

The Koster Collection

Jari and Anna founded Skargaarden 2007 and with their continued passion for furniture design, established Studio Norrlandet. Designing a beautiful outdoor piece of furniture is a challenge as you have to take into account so much more than what is designed for indoors. The challenge is what drives Jari and Anna to design furniture beautiful enough to place indoors and durable enough for any harsh weather conditions.

The Koster collection consists of a Dining Chair, Lounge Chair, Counter stool, Dining Table, Lounge Table, and Sun Lounger. All pieces are made from teak with UV-resistant dark grey rope on the chairs.

The Saltholm Collection

In the sea between Copenhagen and Malmö, lies the island Saltholm. Sixteen square kilometers of desolate, Danish countryside where only a handful of people live in total seclusion and closeness. Skargaarden designed the Saltholm range with these ideas in mind - to be close and still far away. The teak frames’ restrained design is balanced by curved, lush pillows.

The Saltholm collection consists of a Sofa, Lounge Chair, Ottoman, and Lounge Table.

The H55 Lounge Chair

The Swedish Society of Industrial Design arranged the Helsingborg Exhibition of 1955 to showcase the previous 25 years since the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930. The event acquired the neat nickname of H55. Scandinavia’s designers were extremely well represented, including Alvar Aalto, Stig Lindberg, Yngve Ekström, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, and Björn Hultén. Björn designed this sun chair – one of the things that. Skargaarden has always held dear as a source of reference and inspiration.

The H55 Lounge Chair is made from teak with fabric and stainless steel. It has several recliner setttings and is available in eight colors and fabrics from Sunbrella and Agora. The canvas fabric edition is for indoor use only.

The Djurö Collection

Djurö is a secret place. An island right in the middle of Lake Vänern in Sweden, isolated from the world by water that stretches into the distance. In Djurö, you can easily feel as though you are out at sea, or the last person on Earth.

The Djurö furniture range is not quite as secret, but it does share some of the same qualities, the same sensation of other worldliness - simple, but not the least bit spartan. Rather like the island that gives its name to this range of furniture, the design is inspired by the island where fallow deer roam, regal and graceful, but seldom seen.

The Djurö Collection consists of a Dining Chair and Armchair with canvas options, Dining Table, and Sun Lounger.

The Bönan Collection

Bönan is a sleepy fishing village on the Swedish coast, a couple of hours’ drive north of Stockholm. Skargaarden’s founders built what looks like a modern incarnation of a mid-century Case Study House. They needed a sofa that would capture the spirit of the house, the village and the Baltic coast. In the end, instead of creating a single sofa, they created a modular sofa system that can be assembled in many different combinations.

The Bönan Lounge Sofa is designed for all occasions and outdoor use. The frames are made of a powder coated aluminum and come in light or dark grey. The cushions are made from outdoor fabrics filled with Quickdry foam and come in three different fabrics; Light Grey Sunbrella Sling, Beige Linen Nelen & Delbeke and Light Grey Sunbrella Renaissance Heritage Ash. In addition, the Bönan collection is complete with the Lounge Chair and Lounge Table.
