The System Cado®

Design by Poul Cadovius, 1960

DK3, DENMARK

After a successful launch of ROYAL SYSTEM® in 1948 and SYSTEM ULTRA® in 1957, the Danish designer and furniture manufacturer Poul Cadovius expanded his shelving universe with the introduction of SYSTEM CADO® in 1960. The design principle behind the three systems were basically the same. ROYAL SYSTEM® and SYSTEM ULTRA® were primarily made with wall-mounted rails, but with SYSTEM CADO® Poul Cadovius took a further step by introducing it on both rails and large wooden panels. The system included both tables, sofas and even a bed, and in this way, the basic idea behind the wall-hung furniture concept was completed with SYSTEM CADO®.

SYSTEM CADO® was very special to Poul Cadovius, and he considered it one of his most exclusive and successful designs. By looking at the system’s many fine details, you easily understand why. The cabinets are exquisitely framed by the slightly sloping edge profile. A profile that adds a lightness and elegance to the system and makes the design something very special.

With the aim to revitalize the exclusive design, dk3 is relaunching the SYSTEM CADO® cupboards and drawers as free hanging cabinets, which can be mounted on the wall without any visible suspension rails. The cabinets are made individually, either with drawers or as cupboards with handleless doors or sliding doors in wood or glass. Additionally, the cabinet comes in a version with drop front to be used as either cellaret or writing desk. The drop front cabinet is also available with a beautiful, preinstalled workstation with six small finger joined drawers for paper, envelopes, etc.

The variety of cabinets gives several combination options and can be mounted either separately or as a sideboard of various cabinets and drawers. The system comes in either oak or walnut, and some of the cabinets are available with a beautiful handwoven veneer front, which has also been relaunched for the ROYAL SYSTEM® and which was a part of the initial ROYAL SYSTEM® collection in the early fifties.
