One of the most distinctive pieces of furniture to be designed by interior architect Olof Ottelin (1917-1971) is the Jumbo lounge chair from 1958. Ottelin was a key influence on early Finnish interior design and the development of post-war furniture design. Fasetti Design's series of new re-issued Finnish furniture classics now continues alongside Olof Ottelin's Design Ornäs and Ahti Taskinen. Ottelin's Jumbo is part of the low recliner trend - it was released as a backrest chair (in keeping with the spirit of the times). It was a trendy new addition to the line of open fireplaces and low brick terraced houses. The chair is shaped so that the person sitting on it can straighten their legs. 'Ottelin's lines are never rigidly straight, but he longs for curves, which are the thing about his chairs,' was written about Ottelin's design in the late 1950s. Jumbo's frame is also made up of curved wooden sections that continue into the legs of the chair.
Fasetti´s craftsman Esa Niiranen says: "Olof Ottelin's design combines many aspects that we value: an understanding of carpentry, refined detailing and functionality.
